Frequently asked questions

Whether you are curious about how peer recovery coaching differs from clinical therapy or you want to know what to expect in our first session, find the clarity you need right here.

What is a recovery coach and what do you do?

A recovery coach is a credentialed professional who helps individuals achieve and sustain sobriety. As a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist in long-term recovery myself, I walk alongside you to identify strengths, break down personal obstacles, develop actionable life skills, and establish sustainable daily habits to protect your recovery.

How is a recovery coach different from a counselor or therapist?

A therapist or counselor provides clinical treatment, diagnosis, and healthcare interventions. In contrast, a recovery coach does not provide clinical diagnosis. Instead, we offer peer-driven guidance rooted in lived experience, focusing on your current reality, practical life barriers, and future wellness goals.

How is a recovery coach different from a 12-step sponsor?

A 12-step sponsor's primary role is volunteer-based guidance specifically focused on walking someone through the 12 steps of a mutual-aid fellowship. A recovery coach provides comprehensive, professional coaching across all life areas, embracing multiple pathways to recovery beyond traditional programs.

What happens during our first session or consultation?

Your initial consultation is a comfortable, straightforward conversation. We will talk openly about where you currently are with addiction or alcoholism, what you want to achieve in the immediate future, and what your ultimate, long-term recovery vision looks like.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

Coaching sessions typically last up to one hour. We generally start with weekly meetings to build strong momentum, then gradually taper to bi-weekly check-ins, monthly sessions, and ongoing phone support as your confidence and recovery stability grow.

Do you meet in person in Ocala or virtually?

We offer both in-person sessions in Ocala, Florida, and flexible virtual sessions online. We will choose whichever format works best and feels most comfortable for you.
